What obligations do registered sex offenders have?

Under state law, registered sex offenders are required to:

  • Annually verify their place of residence.
  • Report within 10 days a change of residence.
  • Have their photograph taken by police every three years (Level 1 and 2 offenders) or every year (Level 3 offenders).
  • Report their attendance at any institution of higher education.
  • Provide information about their internet service accounts, including e-mail addresses and screen names.
  • (Level 3 offenders) Verify their place of residence to police in person every 90 days, at which point an updated photograph may be taken if their appearance has changed.

Municipalities may place further obligations on offenders.
