According to recent news reports, two people were arrested for drug possession during a traffic stop in the town of Newburgh in Orange County, New York. They now face multiple felony charges.
New York State Police said troopers stopped a 2015 Nissan Altima on Route 17K for a traffic violation. The Nissan’s driver was identified as 59-year-old Newburgh resident Roy Brown. While talking to him, troopers said they found out there was a “billy club” in the car. They asked Brown and his passenger Alexis Lynch, 29, to step outside.
The troopers conducted a search of the vehicle and seized a black wooden baton, envelopes with about 14 grams of fentanyl, alprazolam and oxycodone. They also discovered around 10 grams of crack-cocaine on Lynch when searching her.
Both Brown and Lynch were arrested and had a virtual arraignment before the Town of Newburgh Court. Brown was charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was also charged with criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor. Due to his prior felony convictions, Brown was held without bail at Orange County Jail.
Lynch was charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and manufacturing drug-related paraphernalia. She was released on her own recognizance and scheduled for a court appearance at a later date.
