Kindergarten teacher confronts child pornography charges

According to U.S. News, a New York kindergarten teacher was arrested on charges of child pornography following the discovery of numerous photographs of young girls and children’s underwear in his mattress. Officers arrested 30-year-old Roland Yockel II in his home in upstate New York. He taught at Ginther School, where his class consisted of 21 students. Police focused on him after they found his messages on Chatstep, an app that pedophiles frequently use to disseminate child pornography.

In his home, police found pornographic videos of girls, the youngest of whom were four years old. They also discovered underwear Yockel had stolen from the backpacks of children at the summer camp where he worked.

When Yockel was interrogated by police, he said he did not molest any children but watched them while they swam in hopes that their bathing suits would revel their private parts. Furthermore, Yockel’s mother manages a babysitting service from the home in which they live, and he admitted to police that he would have made inappropriate contact with one young girl if they had been left alone.

He claims he never touched any of his students because his job was too important for him to take the risk. However, he made an admission that he traded a sexual video with a 15-year-old girl. If he is convicted of child pornography, he could spend up to 20 years in prison. The school district has placed him on administrative leave.
