New York police charge man with kidnapping and raping woman

New York State Police arrested a Western Massachusetts man on kidnapping and rape charges. He allegedly raped a woman in Beekmantown, New York.

Michael A. Ramos-Perez, 31, was accused of forcing a woman into a van at around 6:15 p.m. on July 15. Police said he traveled a short distance before raping her and eventually letting her out of the van. The woman had been walking along a road in Beekmantown.

Ramos-Perez was charged with two counts of criminal sexual acts in the first-degree, first-degree rape, second-degree kidnapping and fourth-degree criminal mischief. Rape convictions come with serious consequences that can include jail time and inclusion on the sex offender registry. They also have the power to cause permanent damage to a person’s reputation and standing in society.
