Driver charged with aggravated DWI after Westchester work zone crash

A Connecticut man was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) after a construction zone crash on I-95 in Westchester County, New York. New York State Police responded to reports of a two-vehicle collision in the northbound lanes of the interstate near the Mamaroneck exit.

Authorities said Fabian Madera, 43, was traveling northbound in a Toyota Camry when the accident occurred. He hit the back of a construction truck in a work zone while approaching a lane closure.

The collision did not result in any serious injuries. Madera was arrested after troopers determined he was intoxicated at the time of the crash. He was charged with aggravated DWI. His blood alcohol content (BAC) measured 0.19 percent, which is twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

When a driver’s BAC is measured at 0.18 or greater, they can be charged with aggravated DWI. Even a first offense can carry harsh penalties, including jail time, fines and mandatory installation of an ignition interlock device.
