Two Long Island residents charged with assault in domestic violence incident

Two Westbury men were arrested for assault on Long Island after police officers attempted to intervene during a domestic violence incident. Both men were charged with second-degree assault, a felony.

The Nassau County Police Department said the men assaulted officers who were responding to a nighttime domestic dispute at a home on Renison Drive in Westbury. Police found resident Mario Yulan, 32, on the front lawn when they arrived at the home. Officers described him as verbally combative.

When police tried to stop Yulan from entering the residence, he allegedly slammed the front door on an officer’s arm. The officer suffered injuries to his hand and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

A second resident, Adolfo Yulan, 64, also pushed the door closed on the officers. Police eventually entered the home and arrested both men.

Mario Yulan faced additional charges of criminal obstruction of breathing and third-degree criminal mischief. He also had a temporary restraining order placed on him. Both men were released on their own recognizance.

If you are arrested for any kind of domestic violence, you should try to remain as calm as possible when interacting with the police. Depending on how agitated you are, the police could file additional charges against you, as in this case. Your actions could be used against you later to secure a conviction.
