Driver charged with DWI and fleeing the scene of Long Island motorcycle crash

A drunk driving conviction on Long Island can lead to a loss of driving privileges and other penalties. When the driver makes the situation worse by committing other offenses, such as leaving the scene of an accident, the consequences are likely to be even more serious.

In a recent case, a Long Island man was arrested for driving while intoxicated (DWI) in a collision in which a motorcyclist sustained severe injuries. On top of that, he was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with a serious physical injury.

Robert Engel, 52, was heading north on the William Floyd Parkway on a 2009 Harley Davidson motorcycle in Shirley, Suffolk County. Suffolk County Police said Thomas Dudley, 36, was driving a 2012 Toyota sedan when he hit the motorcyclist from behind.

Engel was taken to Long Island Community Hospital after suffering serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Although Dudley fled the scene of the accident, Seventh Precinct police officers found him soon after and arrested him.

Anyone caught in similar circumstances of DWI and leaving the scene of an accident should speak to a Long Island defense lawyer as soon as possible. Brill Legal Group knows the penalties that can come with a conviction and will provide effective legal representation to fight the DWI charges.
