A FORMER NYPD detective who was in a Bronx courtroom yesterday to face child molestation charges also has been indicted in Westchester for allegedly raping two girls in a Yonkers hotel.

Brian Tuitt, 38, who once was assigned to root out child pornography on the Internet, was indicted last month in Westchester for 11 counts that included rape, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child.

Yonkers police said Tuitt sexually assaulted the girls at the Royal Regency Hotel on Tuckahoe Road on Feb. 3. Cops said a woman had left the girls alone with Tuitt, a family friend.

Tuitt's attorney in the Westchester case said his client has "adamantly denied that he had any inappropriate contact with the children."

According to court papers, hours after Tuitt allegedly raped the two girls in Yonkers, he was arrested on a complaint by a Bronx woman who charged he had sexually abused her daughters in her home.

Defense attorney Peter Brill, who represents Tuitt in the Bronx case, said yesterday his client maintains his innocence.

"I think this is a case of greed and copycats," said Brill. "Brian Tuitt was friends with the mother who filed the case in the Bronx. He babysat her children and tried to be a father figure to her daughters."

Tuitt of Pine Island in Orange County was charged with misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child and felony sexual misconduct against a child in that case.

Tuitt, an 18-year veteran, resigned from the force in March. He was assigned to the city's Community Affairs Youth Division at the time of the alleged incidents.

Tuitt was also part of the city's first cyberspace patrol, a unit designed to weed out child pornography on the Internet. He is being held on $250,000 bail.
